Alvarez Wax Models had it's beginning when Henry
Alvarez, fresh out of Military service, applied for work at the Stubergh
Studios in Glendale, California. He was hired and began his auspicious
career on October 31st, 1968.
His talents and enthusiasm were noticed
quickly by sculpting legend, Katherine
Marie Stubergh. Under her mentorship, for the next three
and one half years, he was taught the secret formulas, methods and
techniques for creating life-size wax models.
When Katherine retired in 1970, her company was sold and plans were
made to move it back to Niagara Falls, N.Y.
Henry was an essential part of the transaction, being that, outside
of Katherine, he was the only one who knew how to create wax models.
He was hired as the production manager and moved back east to create
a new business operating out of New York.
It now became known as The Stubergh-Keller Wax Studios. The ownership
of the company, along with its investments in wax museums, were sought
after and purchased by the growing company, Ripley's International
Limited, parent company of Ripley's Believe it or Not.
Henry was given total control of the company's operation and under
his direction, helped to create several more museums under the company
banner, Ripley's Believe It Or Not. He also provided wax models for
existing clients of the company throughout this country as well as
foreign operations.
Henry continued in this capacity until the latter part of 1976, when
he decided to move back to California with his family, and start his
own company, Alvarez Wax Models.
To this day, Alvarez Wax Models has continued
to supply high quality wax models to museums as well as to private
collectors throughout the world.
The company has, much in the same manner as the Stuberghs, expanded
into other markets, designing and providing sculpture for theme parks,
prototypes for the mask industry, special effects for motion pictures
and television, licensed bronze figurines as well as larger than life
sculpture for monuments.
Alvarez Wax Models has gained much experience
and recognition for our work over the years. As far as the future
goes, we will continue to expand our product lines and produce the
high quality art work we have become known for.
